This ultra-compact Qwiic breakout allows you to use non-Qwiic I2C sensors/devices with your Qwiic-based project. It also allows you to do things the opposite way – breaking out Qwiic devices to simple pads for hooking up to your circuit in whatever way you decide – soldered wires, terminal blocks, headers and more.

Another handy way to use this breakout is to solder the included 4-pin header to the board and use it as a breadboard adapter for Qwiic devices – handy!

I2C and Qwiic devices use four lines for power and communication – GND, 3.3V, SDA and SCL. The pads on one side of this breakout connect these lines to two Qwiic connectors, and all share the same lines. This allows a few different use cases to help you hook up the parts from your project:

Use the breakout to:

• Connect a non-Qwiic I2C device to a Qwiic system
• Break a Qwiic sensor out to pads
• Join two Qwiic cables together using the two Qwiic ports (pads unused)
• Connect a Qwiic device AND a non-Qwiic device to a Qwiic host microcontroller (devices will require different I2C addresses)
• Connect two Qwiic devices to a breadboard using the included pin header (devices will require different I2C addresses)
• …and more!

If you’re soldering wires, consider using theunderside solder pads. We added these because we know just how tricky it is to de-solder and re-solder a wire from a pad hole. With the underside pads, it’s much, much easier to re-work and re-use.

We also usedM2.5 mounting holesas they’re a popular size with easy-to-source fixings…and because we detest fiddly M2 fixings.
